Baruch Hashem Adonai

In Romans 11, Paul posed the question “Has God rejected His people?”

Indeed, has He? The Gentile Church seems to be split on this.

Well, the jury has return, and the verdict is “By no means” (verse 1).

Paul goes on to defend his verdict by informing us the following:

God has not rejected his people whom he foreknew. Do you not know what the Scripture says of Elijah, how he appeals to God against Israel. “Lord, they have killed your prophets, they have demolished your altars, and I alone am left, and they seek my life.” But what is God’s reply to him? “I have kept for myself seven thousand men who have not bowed the knee to Baal.” So too at the present time there is a remnant, chosen by grace. (Rom 11:2-5 ESV)

This isn’t merely Paul’s opinion; it is a truth of Scripture. Yet, in spite of this, about half the Church has chosen to hold on to their anti-Semitic stance that God is through with Israel. The straw that broke the camel’s back, so to speak, was when the Jews rejected their own Messiah and crucified Him.

Paul does not deny that God has temporarily “shelved” Israel, giving them “a spirit of stupor, eyes that would not see and ears that would not hear, down to this very day” (11:18). And has given to the Gentiles (Christians) what the Jews had been seeking all this while – the salvation blessing. Having this “favoured” status before God, Paul warned Gentile Christians not to be “arrogant”, saying, “Branches were broken off so that I might be grafted in” (v. 19). While it is true, Paul reminds us, that “they were broken off because of their unbelief… do not become proud, but stand in awe. For if God did not spare the natural branches, neither will he spare you” (v. 20-21).

I’d like to share this song with you. It has beautiful melody and meaning. It reflects the right attitude that we, Gentile Christians, must have. Enjoy it and, at the same time, follow sing along using the lyrics I have included below.

Lyrics: Baruch Hashem Adonai כבוד שם יהוה
(Blessed be the Name of the Lord)

Who am I to be part of Your People
The ones that are called by Your Name
Could I be Chosen as one of Your Own
Could it be that our blood line is the same.

How can a stranger a remnant of nations
Belong to this Royal Line
You showed Your grace when the
branches were broken and I grafted into the vine

Baruch Hashem Adonai (2 X)
Blessed be the Name of the Lord
Baruch Hashem Adonai.

How Could You show me
Such bountiful mercy
By taking the life of the Lamb
Your love is greater than I can imagine
I bless You with all that I am

Praise to You Jesus the Veil has been parted
And what once was a secret is known
Now I can cry to You
Abba My Father and Praise You as
one of Your Own.

Baruch Hashem Adonai (2 X)
Blessed be the Name of the Lord
Baruch Hashem Adonai.
